HOURS and Hours OF CODE in the AMS LIBRARY

​Everybody loves a good secret code, don't they? This week in the library, AMS students were able to create "binary bracelets", bracelets that contain secret messages in ones and zeros (or in this case, black and white beads!) 

KNOWvember has come and gone...

This KNOWvember, students were challenged to research the answers to trivia questions, cite their sources correctly using MLA format, and then enter to win a prize. After finding out that bananas are berries (and strawberries are NOT); a penny falling from the top of the Empire State Building does NOT pose a mortal threat to pedestrians walking below; and that drowning in quicksand isn't just highly unlikely, it isn't possible; we have chosen the three winners from the many entries we received. Congrats to all who entered! Your curiosity and research prowess will take you far!

Book Spotlight:
Wretched Waterpark, by Kiersten White

     Meet the Sinister-Winterbottoms: brave Theo, her timid twin, Alexander, and their older sister, Wil. They’re stuck for the summer with their Aunt Saffronia, who doesn’t know how often children need to eat and can’t use a smartphone, and whose feet never quite seem to touch the floor when she glides—er—walks.
     When Aunt Saffronia suggests a week pass to the Fathoms of Fun Waterpark, they hastily agree. But the park is even stranger than Aunt Saffronia. The waterslides look like gray gargoyle tongues. 
     The employees wear creepy black dresses and deliver ominous messages. An impossible figure is at the top of the slide tower, people are disappearing, and suspicious goo is seeping into the wave pool.
     Something mysterious is happening at Fathoms of Fun, and it’s up to the twins to get to the bottom of it. The mystery, that is. NOT the wave pool. Definitely NOT the wave pool. But are Theo and Alexander out of their depth?

This first of four books is twisted in a funny kind of way that reminds me of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events... maybe with a few more awesome waterslides. Whether it's summer time or spooky season, this book is a fun ride!
