How do I find a book? There are so many ways for you to find your next favorite book!
First, you can always ask me for recommendations. I'm your librarian and I LOVE connecting students with books.
Too shy? At home? Can't find me? Not a problem! You can access the library catalog straight from the AMS Library website as well as Panthers Link!
Finally, slowly browse through an area that seems to call to you. Not even kidding, I find new books to read on these shelves all the time!
How do I check out a book? Once you have the book that you want to take home and read, take it over to the circulation desk. You will usually find me or Mrs. Zappia there, and we will ask you for your last name, scan the barcode, and then tell you when the book is due to be returned. After that, the book is yours for three weeks! How do I check in a book? When you enter the library, look to your left, toward the circulation desk-- that humongous blue monster. You will see a slot cut into the top of the counter. That is the book drop, and it is the way to return the book to its home. Please say hi as you return your books, and let me know what you thought! How long may I keep the books I check out? You have three weeks to read the books you check out. However, you may also renew the book until you are finished. It is not my goal to rush you through a great read; I want you to ENJOY it! That said, please return the books you are finished with, or that you know you will not be reading further. There may be other students waiting for the book you chose, and when you return a book that you do not love, I can help you find a better match. How many books may I check out? Let's start with one or two. If you are a voracious reader and you want three or four over a long weekend, not a problem. May I check out books that are on display? Yes, please do! The displays are for you, and they are meant to capture your interest and attention. All of the books that you see in the library, on display, even in the windows, are there for you to enjoy! What happens if I lose a book, or if my little sister eats it? There are no late fines at our school library. If you check out a book, it is your responsibility to take care of it. It belongs to you as well as every other member of our community. If a book is lost, please replace it with a comparable copy. If your little sister was that hungry, wow! Same deal, though. Please replace the book. May I eat in the library? Nope. May I use my cell phone in the library? Nope. May I use my Chromebook in the library? If it is not an "unplugged" day, yes, you may use your Chromebook in the library for entertainment. You may ALWAYS use your Chromebook in the library to complete assignments. How do I print something? Your Chromebooks are not set up to print; you do need to log onto a library desktop. Once you have your work ready and you click print, select the printer you would like to use and the settings you prefer: HP Color 4700 is the color printer, to be used by students with permission of the library staff. 600 prints black and white. 402 prints black and white as well as on two sides. The printers are located on either side of the circulation desk. When can I visit the library? Most lunches throughout the year, the library is open to students to participate in the programs being run, complete work, or decompress by chatting with friends. You may also visit the library during your ICS in order to browse for and check out books, upon your teacher's discretion and with a pass. Students must sign in upon entering the library.
